HISTORY
In the 1950's, Bro. Max Manning, well known in the Topeka, Kansas area, held a
tent meeting on land owned by the Surber's south of Carbondale. After this
meeting, Bert and Jesse Manning came from Burlingame and held bible study
meetings in the Surber's home.
The church soon moved to an old school house south of town on highway 75. In
1962 the group acquired a building from Topeka and moved it to South Third in
Carbondale, where it was remodelled. When remodelling was complete in April
of 1963, this became their first church building.
In 1981 an addition was added to the original building to be used for Sunday
School and fellowship dinners. In 2007 that building was torn down and a new
sanctuary, Sunday School facilities and kitchen was built on the site. God
provided all the necessary finances for the construction of the new building, and it
was completed debt free and dedicated in 2009.
In the latter 1950's, Pastor Jack Bannister began pastoring Grace Chapel and
continued until 1980. In 1981 Pastors Roy and Anita Clark moved from New
Mexico to take over the ministry. Upon the death of Pastor Roy in 2012, Pastor
Anita became the senior pastor.
